Morecambe Lantern Festival
On Wednesday this week, More Music Morecambe held it's annual Lantern festival in the West End of Morecambe. It's a great pre-Christmas carnival atmosphere, bringing together community groups, schools and local residents to celebrate the spirit of Morecambe's West End community. As well as the fabulous lantern parade, the evening featured the Morecambe Band, Baybeat Carnival Band, street performances, carol singing and more besides.

I was asked by More Music Morecambe to photograph the event and must say it was a lot of fun.

I think next year, I'll be back with my boys too!

Something a little different...
Lately I have been reacquainting myself with my rather dusty film & video skills, and so here is a first result. Sarah Hymas of Flax Books reading her own poem "Harrogate Bedrock, 1898".

The Wedding of Alison & Jonathan.
Last weekends weather didn't look too good for Alison & Jonathan's wedding, held at St. Christopher's on the Promenade in Bare, Morecambe, but Alison donned her gold glittery wellies instead and set the tone for a very happy day.

The reception at the Lancaster House Hotel had a fun Elvis theme, and I loved Jonathan's idea to take polaroids of all the guests for their own guest book keepsake. Nice one!

My many congratulations to you both!

Over the last month, if you've been anywhere at all in the Lancaster area, you will probably have come across the publicity for Litfest07 for which I'm proud to say I provided the photographs.
My pictures were then worked rather neatly I thought into the finished brochure deign, posters, postcards, litfest website etc by Martin Chester, the Litfest Designer.
It's been rather nice seeing my pictures everywhere, but now Litfest is over for another year and the publicity is coming down.
During the festival week I mostly wore my other hat (Litfest Admin) and practically camped out at The Dukes looking after writers and overseeing the bookstall. But occasionally I did manage to sneak into the odd event and get a few snaps...

Wedding of John & Kathryn.
Bentham lies on the border of Lancashire and Yorkshire and it was to here I went recently to photograph the wedding of John & Karthryn.

It's a lovely place and with the very charming church setting and the glorious late October sun, it was a memorable day by any account.

Congratulations to you both!

First up was Tom Fletcher, who will be appearing alongside Mollie Baxter and Peter Wild in "Before The Rain: Flax006" and joining him Emma McGordon who will be appearing in the as yet untitled Flax005. Last but by no means least is Dee Swift, who will also be featured in Flax005. As ever, further details of Flax Books can be found here.

The Wedding of Kirstie & Adam.
A busy fortnight for me began on Saturday 20th at the Ashton Memorial in Lancaster with the wedding of Kirstie and Adam. The late October sun was more glorious than could have been hoped for and the happy couple enjoyed a fantastic day in a beautiful setting.

The Wedding of Helen and John.
Whitewell, in the heart of the Forest of Bowland is a beautiful little village. And it was to here I went on Friday this week, to photograph the blessing of Helen and John.

The couple had recently returned from Cyprus where their 'official' wedding lasted barely 5 minutes!

The blessing at St. Michael's in Whitewell, was a different, and rather charming, affair. Despite rain, looming grey clouds and high wind on the drive over from Lancaster, I found Whitewell bathed in sunshine.

Best wishes to you both.

The Return of Flax.
This morning I was back at Litfest and working on the next round of Flax authors.
First up was Chris Culshaw who has been selected by editor Sarah Hymas to be amongst those writers appearing in the first print volume to be published by Flax Books.

A departure then from the digital download publication, the book should be out in early 2008.

Silverdale Beach Clean.
Another assignment from Photoshot sent me off to Silverdale this weekend, where I had a great time with Cumbrian Beachcare, who had recently been awarded funds by the o2 It's Your Community project.

I love Silverdale, so it was an especial pleasure for me to be promoting their great work.

Minnie The Minx.

To celebrate my 5oth post on this blog, a bit of pure fun for you. Not quite sure what else to say about this one! Does it even need explanation?

Flax 4.
The next Flax publication from Litfest deviates from the norm with a Polish translation project with writer, Joanna Skalska and translator Ian Seed of Shadowtrain.

I photographed Joanna for her web profile which will accompany the publication due later this year.

A trip to Lancaster University.
I took a trip up to Lancaster University on Thursday on assignment for the London-based agency, as their client needed shots of the campus post office.

Dave and Maria.
It was a first time photographing at the charming Pickerings Hotel in Garstang for me this Saturday, at the wedding of David and Maria. It was a lovely day, full of smiling, happy guests, all sharing in their joy.

I had another first that day too, as I have never before encountered the newly wed couple walk out to the sound of the "Imperial March" (the Darth Vader theme ) from Star Wars!

Have a great honeymoon, and may the force be with you.

Flax3 Postcards.
It was very nice returning from holiday this last week to find the Flax3 writers postcards (which feature my photos) were back from the printers. And not just that. They were also really, really nice. Martin Chester (litfest designer) has done a great job I think. Flax3, titled, The Art of Tying Knots, will be available as a digital download from September 7th at the Litfest website.

Image of the Week.
I had the great honour this evening, of finding one of my photos was chosen as "Image of the Week" on another website. Yes, it's nice to be recognised by one's peers, even if the website in question does happen to be that of one of my oldest mates and probably enjoys only marginally more hits than Tim Henman at this year's Wimbledon. However, thanks Richard, and in return I offer up this classic of 80's fashion photography - a portrait of me by Richard Wain. 40 year old's of a nervous disposition should look away now.

Oh, come on, it was the 80's for god's sake!

Oh, and if you want to see that 'Image of the Week' click here to visit the very excellent Dam Design website.
